A government department provides caregiver services or acknowledges and accredits other institutions to provide the service. These are generally funded by a grant from the Metropolitan Area Agency on Aging with funds from the Federal Older Americans Act. Through the Caregiver Services program, social workers coach and counsel family caregivers so they have the information, skills, and emotional tools to provide balanced, confident care for as long as possible. There are family consultants who can advise about the available community resources in this respect. Not for profit or voluntary organizations:

The National Home and Hospice Care Survey (NHHCS) does a series of surveys in partnership with the department of Health and Human Services. Information about agencies that provide home and hospice care and about their current patients and discharges were collected through this survey. The survey based on a probability sample of home health agencies and hospices, includes all agencies that are licensed or certified (Medicare of Medicaid). Hospice care is a program of comforting and supportive care services providing physical, psychological, social, and spiritual care for the terminally ill. Data in such cases are collected through personal interviews of the staff and administrators.

National Family Caregiver Support Program (NFCSP) was developed by the Administration on Aging (AoA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The core activities of the Elder Care Initiative are in information and referral, technical assistance and education, and advocacy. The program calls for all states, working in partnership with local Area Agencies on Aging (AAA). The local AAA is one of the first resources a caregiver should contact when help is needed. Almost every state has one or more AAA, which serves local communities, older residents, and their families. Information on Local AAA?s is generally available from the city or county government sections of the telephone directory under ?Aging? or ?Social Services.?
There are national level help lines for distressed families and eldercare abuse and neglect. They are help lines that provide information to help answer health questions. They provide authoritative information from National Library of Medicines (NLM), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and other government agencies and health-related organizations.
